Who, What, When & Where
Cheng Ban Kiu (Wong Hei) is an artist who goes to Yangzhou in search of opportunities where he meets his best friends: Kam Lung (Mok Ka Yiu) and Wong San (Mak Bau). With Wong He's talent, he would have done very well in Yangzhou. However, things were never in his control. Wong He lives through the reign of three emperors: Kangxi (Chun Pui), Yungzheng (Tsang Wai Kuen) and Qinlong (William Tso). Although he finally realizes his wish to serve his country, he realizes that the seedy world of politics is not what he wanted.

Along the twisted road to success, the road to love is also split into three. When first arriving in Yangzhou, Wong He meets Yat Jer (Gigi Lai). He almost marries her, but her mother resents his origins and in the end, he marries Yat Jer's servant Tsui See (Nadia Chan) instead. Nadia tries her hardest to make Wong He happy and eventually wins over his heart. Wong He eventually becomes an official and happily returns to his village - only to find that his wife dies while trying to save him. Before she dies, Nadia convinces Wong He to marry Ng Mui (Myolie Wu). Wong He has no feelings towards Mui but she does not mind this. Gigi later plots to ruin Wong He and Myolie tried her best to help Wong He...

After working for most of his life, Wong He is left with little to show for this and before he leaves for his village to retire with Myolie, he leaves behind the words "Ignorance is Bliss" to Qianlong - reflecting his experiences.

Gigi's mother
I promise that you will hate this character from the beginning to the end! At the beginning, Gigi's mother did not want Ah He to marry Gigi, because she thinks Ah He is not good enough for Gigi. So, she uses Nadia to substitute as the bride. I guess that was OK, because I really like Nadia as Ah He's wife... Later, Gigi's mother blamed on Ah He for Gigi's husband's death, but it was her that caused everything, anyway, this woman is very bad, I hated her to the bone!

Gigi towards the end
Because of some misunderstanding, Gigi takes revenge on Ah He, and ruins his career. Gigi becomes very unreasonable, because all Ah He did was love her too much, for all his life, he wants to be good to her, never treats her wrong, but she misunderstood him

Nadia Chan
I love Nadia as Ah He's wife, because she did SO MANY things for him, even scarficed herself to save Ah He. What a great wife to have! Thanks to Gigi's mother, we get to see Nadia and Wong He falling love, but Nadia gets the sad ending, poor Nadia... However, you will love all the things Nadia did for Wong He...

- Pity Factor
Nadia Chan
Nadia is a great actress, but she always plays the pity factor. I enjoy her character, because the way she loves Ah He, but she died because she loves Ah He way too much! That is so sad, don't you think?

- Home Come Factor
I don't know if you noticed, when Ah He is old, he likes to wave his hand a lot, sometimes he pointed at something or somebody, sometimes he just likes to wave his hand around. I thought it was cute, but I don't know if Ah He meant to do the waving thing, anyways, I was just wondering...

FAVORITES

Wong He
I don't know if I like the character he is playing or not, because sometimes, he is way too unreasonable, for example, treats his wives bad, or loves Gigi way too much. However, Ah He as an actor did an excellent job, his performances were great, especially the older him, you can tell the differences, because the older him got more mature! I love his mustache [see the picture at right], I thought he looks really handsome, don't you think?

Nadia Chan
As I said, Nadia is a wonderful actress! She always gives the best performances, so she did it again in this series.

Nadia's character, because of the way she loves Ah He

- Couple
Wong He and Nadia
This is the type of couple I enjoy to watch! Wong He and Nadia went through lots of things together. At the beginning, Ah He did not like Nadia at all, but he slowly changed his attitude towards him, and you can tell, he slowly falling in love with Nadia, their love story was great

Wong He and Wyolie
Another wife of Wong He was Wyolie, they got married right before Nadia's death, because Nadia wants Wyolie to take care of Ah He (what a great wife!), anyways, after Nadia died, Wyolie takes care of Ah He very well, but Ah He didn't care until Wyolie tries to save him while Gigi tries to ruin him

2. When Ah He is old, I like to see the older him, because he is more mature!

I know the whole story begins with their love story, I know Wong He did anything possible to help Gigi, I know Ah He loves Gigi way too much and he can die for her, however, I do not like this couple. Because, everytime Gigi appears, Wong He is in deep trouble, seriously, everytime!

Everytime you see Ah He and Gigi together! Or you see Gigi's mother, I really hate to see that woman!

COMMENTS
Overall, I enjoyed this series, maybe because of Wong He and Nadia, their love story made this series worth watching.

IS IT WORTH WATCHING?
For all the Ah He and Nadia fans, you should watch this one, you will enjoy it. For all the Gigi fans, I don't think you will dislike it, because you get to see the "evil" side of Gigi...

What's Good?
Well, this is one of the best serie I've seen this year. Even my mom, who doesn't watch much of serie, watches the serie and is into it. Why?? there are quite a few reason but the most obvious one is the refreshing plot, even though it is longer than most regular serie, it isn't draggy at all.

First of all, the DTO cannot be consider as a comedy or drama or action cuz they are all in there, (not so much action though). It was hilarious at the beginning with the younger Wong Hei and Mak Cheng Cheung and the other guy. They really do have chemistry. they remind me of Wong Hei, Chin Kar Lok and the other guy from Burning Flame I. It was dramatic toward the end with all the love stories, and deaths and struggles ... etc.

The acting was great also, everybody did their job very well. IT is good seeing Gigi Lai doing some serie for TVB and Nadia doesn't have much serie also. Myolie Wu is awesome as a newcomer (i think this is her 4th serie).

The love stories are quite nice. Like how at the beginning Wong Hei has to try to get Gigi.

What's Bad?
Definately how unreasonable Wong Hei can be to his wives, Nadia and Myolie. I mean look at the way he treats Nadia, he slapped her for trying to save his a**, (spoiler) she even dies because of him. Myolie then follows the same footstep.

I dont understand how he can treat Myolie the same he treats Nadia. He should have learn to recognize who loves him. Even if he cant return the love, he doesn't have to treat Myolie like that. quite unreasonable. In addition, how could he rekindle his love toward Gigi after all those years and Nadia???? that is just absoluate not rite.

Favorite Charater
the character has to be of Mak Cheng Cheung. the guy is hilarous, and hes a great actor also. but sadly, he suffers the same fate as many others who will ending up playing supporting roles for the rest of his career. He's been in so many series and take on so many roles, none like the other. No matter what roles he takes on, from evil to mr. nice guy, he gives the best performance.

Myolie character was also good. she has her own personality but i didn't like how she can turn all nice suddenly, too subtle.

other characters like Nadia, Gigi, Wong Hei..... were also well written and acted. however, i feel like the support cast are what made the serie good.

the other chacacter that i like is Wong Hei's father (who was also Michell Ye's father in Eternal Happiness). He always gives the best performance with the kind of scholaristic and hard headed, caring father.

Final Verdict
It's a great serie to watch and im sure the whole family will enjoy cuz there are every elements compacted in 24 tapes. It will keep u interested every minutes. I seriously didn't fastfoward through any of the part throughout the whole serie which is quite supprising.

To compare, i would say that this serie is better than Eternal Happiness because of the better plot and a solid cast.
