Jing Yong Collection

THE SERIES

Name: Crimson Sabre / Sword Stained with Royal Blood
Productions:

1985 - TVB - Felix Wong, Miu Kiu Wai 1993 - Movie - Yuen Biao, Zhang Min 2000 - TVB - Gordon Lam, Kong Wah

Comments:
Versions - This is Jing Yong's second novel. I didn't see either versions, so I can't give you too much details on this one. But, I heard the 2000 version has a better ending.
Characters - As for the casting, Gordon Lam vs. Felix Wong, of course, you will choose Felix. Kong Wah vs Miu Kiu Wai, they both look pretty cute, but I like Miu Kiu Wai's ancient style a little more.

Name: Demi Gods Semi Devils
Productions:

1982 - TVB - Leung Jia Ren, Felix Wong, Kent Tong, Idy Chan 1991 - Taiwan - Kwan Li Jie, Hui Tian Ci, Zhang Yong Yong 1997 - TVB - Felix Wong, Benny Chan, Terry Fan, Carmen Lee 2003 - China - Hu Jun, Jimmy Lin, Gao Hu, Liu Yifei

Movies: there should be three different movie versions. The more famous one is called "Dragon Story", starring Brigitte Lin, Gong Li, Frankie Lam, etc.
Comments:
Versions - TVB has two different productions for Demi Gods Semi Devils, and the both of them were pretty popular. I liked the 97 version a little better. The 82 version is not bad as well, it was pretty long... As for the newest version, I don't think I want to watch it, because I don't like Jimmy Lin, he can't act!
Characters - Din Yee (Duan Yu) is actually my favorite character, and my favorite Din Yee is got to be Benny Chan, he is very cute. The character Kui/Siu Feng is way too straight, makes people feel like he is the greatest hero. Felix Wong is perfect for this character, however I like his Hui Chuk (Xu Zhu) better, he looks handsome as a monk. As for Wong Yee Yan, Idy Chan is the best, but I also like Carmen Lee, she is also very pretty, and did an excellent job for playing two different roles. However, I didn't like this character, she is in love with the bad guy for so long no matter how much Din Yee loves her, she totally ignores him! It wasn't until the very last moment, she finally realized how good Din Yee is, what a stupid woman!

Name: Duke of the Mount Dear

Productions:

1984 - TVB - Tony Leung, Andy Lau 1984 - Taiwan - Li Xiao Fei, Zhou Shao Dong 1992 - Movie - Steven Chow
1992 - Movie - Steven Chow, Brigitte Lin 1998 - TVB - Jordan Chan, Steven Ma 2000 - Taiwan - Dicky Cheung, Patrick Tam

Comments:
Versions - This is my favorite Jing Yong story of all time! However, I only enjoyed one version, and that is the 1984 version. That is my favorite Jing Yong series of all time as well. Tony Leung and Andy Lau produced the greatest chemistry... The Dicky version is horrible, the storyline totally messed up!
Characters - As for the Duke Wei Xiao Bao, Tony is the best, no one can get near him, he is funny, he is cute, he is smart... Steven Chow is also perfect, but he can't take away Tony's spot. Jordan Chan is a little too old for Duke Wei, he does not look like a man that will let seven girls going totally crazy for him. Dicky Cheung is funny enough, but as I said, that version's storyline totally sucked. As for the Emperor, Andy Lau takes the number one place, Steven Ma takes the number two place, they both look really cute with the emperor style. As for Ke Ke, I don't like her, she is my least favorite wife of Duke Wei. My favorite is Seong Yee, she is the one always there for Duke Wei from the beginning to the end! I like the Seong Yee from the Tony's version, don't know her name, but she was really good. Also, Cherrie Chan was very cute for this role. As for the Princess Kim Leng, Rai Lau is my favorite, she is always my favorite, I like her Princess Kim Leng because she is spoiled and a little crazy.

Name: Flying Fox of the Snowy Mountain

Productions:

1985 - TVB - Ray Lui, Jamie Chik 1991 - Taiwan - Meng Fei, Gong Ci En 1993 - Movie - Leon Lai, Zhang Min 1999 - TVB - Felix Wong, Sunny Chan, Maggie Siu

Comments:
For some reason, I can not find any motives to spent time and watch this story. Maybe the number one reason is that I didn't really care for the main character Wu Fei, no matter which version it is in, I just don't find his story interesting enough. From the three versions, perhaps Sunny Chan's version was the most popular one, but I refused to watch it, so can't give you too much details on that

Name: Hap Hak Hung / Ode to Gallantry
Productions:

1985 - ATV - Mok Shao Cong, Zhao Yong Xi 1989 - TVB - Tony Leung, Sheren Teng 2002 - Mainland - Wu Jian, Zhou Li

Comments:
The orginal novel and the television version has a lot of differences on this story. The television series seem to be a lot more better than the original novel, thanks to Tony Leung, who played two different characters, his acting skills were excellent. Also Sheren Teng did a great job, I liked her chemistry with Tony... As for the other versions, I didn't have a clue what they are about, it must not be popular enough...

Comments:
Versions - The 94 Taiwanese version was the first one I ever saw, actually, I liked it, because it was the first time I encounted that story. But, my favorite version is got to be Tony's version, I remember I saw that one right after the Taiwanese one, and I totally loves Tony's version a lot more. As for the other versions, I heard the Adam Cheung one was classic, which I really believed so, because there are lots of great actors and actress in that one. The Lawrenence Ng version, I refused to watch, because he does not fit into that main character what-so-ever!
Characters - As I said, Tony is the best Cheung Mor Gei (Zhang Wu Ji), Yei Tong is the worst Chiu Man (Zhao Min), she looks horrible with that ancient dress! Charamine Sheh is the worst Chu Chi Nhuoc (Zhou Zhi Ruo), what is up with her playing villain???? I totally didn't think she can do a good job... I don't have a favorite Zhou Zhi Ruo yet, because this character has the most twisting outcomes, she changes from so good to so bad, Kitty Lai did pretty good, but Gigi Chiu looks prettier. Cathy Chow was only average, her acting skills were not too great. As for the character Yang Xiao, Sun Xing is the best of the best, no matter how much you dislike the Taiwanese version, you have to give him the most credits, he shines the entire series!

Comments:
Versions: This is Jing Yong's first kung fu novel, and it was a instant hit, however, I didn't see any of the versions, so I can't give you too much details on it. But, the main character Chan Ka Lok (Chen Jia Luo) becomes a big hero because of this novel and these series. Many movies or series adopted him as a legend...
Characters - Adam Cheung is the perfect Chan Ka Lok, and Lisa Wong is the best Fok Ching Tong, I guess that's all I have to say!

Comments:
Versions - This is perhaps the most famouse story of Jing Yong. TVB has two versions, and the first one was the best one, and the most classic one of all time, Felix Wong and Barbara Yung have the greatest chemistry. There are also other series based on the Legend of Condor Heroes, those special versions focus on one or certain characters of the original story. My favorite was Condor Hero Returns starring Ekin and Macro.
Characters - Barbara Yung is the most classic Wong Yung, also the prettiest. Felix Wong is the best Kwok Jing, his performances were honorable. Mui Kiu Wai is the most handsome villain as Yang Kang. I totally love him! Yeung Pan Pan is also the perfect Mok Lim Chi. Basically, the original casts from the original Condor Heroes were the best of the best!

1998 - TCS - Christopher Lee, Fann Wong 1998 - Taiwan - Richie Ren, Jacqline Wu 1960 - Movie 1992 - Movie - Andy Lau

Comments:
Versions - There are LOTS of versions of this story, which can consider as a follow up of Legend of Condor Hero, it's about Yang Kang's son Yang Guo and his love story. TVB has two versions of the story, and both of them were great.
Characters -
I love Carmen Lee's Xiao Long Nu the most, because of her ancient outfits look great on her. Louis and Andy both looks handsome as Yang Guo.

Comments:

Versions - Here comes my second favorite Jing Yong story of all time, I almost saw all versions, and also read the book! The Jackie Liu one was my favorite, because that one is the closest to the original novel. I didn't like the Chow Yun Fat version too much, don't know why, I know he is funny, and he did pretty good as Ling Hu Chong, but his version was not so memoriable, and I hate the ending!
Characters - Rebecca Chan is my favorite Ren Ying Ying, because she looks really pretty back then, and she has big eyes. Cherie Chan is the best Yue Ling Shan, she has that look that makes people feel pity for her.
